The trucks that come to us for restoration are almost never bought for the project. They belonged to somebody's father, or they have been on the same land for forty years, or they were the first vehicle a person owned. That changes the conversation considerably.

An honest look before anything is promised

The first job is finding out what is actually there. Cab corners, floor pans, bed sides, and the lower parts of the fenders are where decades of Alabama humidity do their work, and a truck that looks solid in a barn can be a good deal worse once it is on a lift in daylight. We photograph it, show you, and give you a realistic picture rather than a hopeful one.

Sometimes the honest answer is that the shell is too far gone to be worth what it would cost. We would rather say that at the start than a third of the way through.

Frame, then body, then paint

The sequence is not flexible. Structure gets addressed first and measured, because everything panel-related references off it and there is no fixing a twisted frame after the bed is hung. Then metalwork, then primer and blocking, then color. A restoration is judged from six inches away in sunlight, which is a far harder test than the auto body work on a claim job has to pass.

There is a lot of this work sitting in barns across Cleburne and Randolph counties, and most of it has been sitting because the owner did not know who to trust with it.
